The County
Engineer is elected every four years and must be a registered
Professional Engineer and Surveyor in Ohio. As the county's
surveyor and civil engineer, the Engineer designs, constructs
and maintains the county road system, including county bridges,
guardrails, and signs. The Engineer also works with township
trustees in providing snow removal during the winter season
and maintaining township roads throughout the year.
Funded primarily through state motor vehicle
license fees, the Engineer's office maintains the Auditor's
tax maps used for reviewing deeds, land transfers, and lot
splits.
In Allen County, the Engineer is directly
responsible for the maintenance of 340 miles of county roads,
520 miles of township roads, ten traffic lights and 420 bridges.
