It is the Commission's intent to provide
much needed transportation to and from VA Medical facilities.
This service is a courtesy of the Veterans Service Commission.
Any Allen County Veteran needing VA medical treatment is eligible
to use the van for transportation to and from VA Medical facilities.
The transportation van currently seats up to ten (10) veterans.
There is a wheelchair lift on the van; however, a veteran
must use his/her own wheelchair.
To reserve a seat on the van, a veteran
or representative must contact the Allen County Veterans Service
Office and inform the staff of the date, time, and place of
the upcoming appointment.
Do not wait until the day before your appointment
to schedule a seat on the van. It may be full at that time.
ONLY VETERANS MAY RIDE THE VAN. Family
members must provide their own transportation.
Departure times vary depending on
the earliest appointment for that day. Please schedule your
appointments for times between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. if
at all possible. Call our office the day before your appointment
to see what time the van will be leaving the next morning.
If your appointment is on a Monday, please call on the previous
Friday. Arrive at the Courthouse a few minutes early. If you
are going to be picked up at your residence, please be patient.
The van will leave as scheduled and will pick up veterans
in time for their appointments. Please advise our office immediately
if for any reason you no longer need the seat you have already
reserved on the van.
Home pick-up is available for veterans
who: * are going to be admitted to a VA facility * are in
a wheelchair and do not have transportation to the Courthouse
* are without the ability to get transportation to the Courthouse.
Because home pick-ups generally delay the arrival time to
the VA facility, the Commission asks that veterans try to
get transportation to the Courthouse. Upon arriving back in
Lima, veterans will be returned to their homes, unless they
have driven their own vehicle to the courthouse.
Preparation for return- The driver
will inform each veteran on when and where to meet at the
VA facility for the return trip to Lima. Please be courteous
and arrive promptly at the pre-designated area. You will need
to advise the driver if you are going to be delayed, or if
you are going to be admitted. Due to some late appointments,
be aware that you return time may be well into the evening.
