
Sanitary Engineer
Stephen M. Kayatin, P.E. was appointed August 1, 1991 as the Allen County Sanitary Engineer. Mr. Kayatin has worked as a professional Civil Engineer for twenty-six (26) years, and has been a practicing Civil Engineer for thirty (30) years. Mr. Kayatin is a graduate of The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, and a minor in Structural Engineering. Mr. Kayatin has also completed some Masters Degree study at the University of South Carolina in Structural Engineering.
Mr. Kayatin worked at the Duke Power Company in Charlotte, North Carolina as a Design Engineer for eight (8) years. Mr. Kayatin was mainly involved in design and analysis of structural steel and concrete facilities for nuclear power plants. Some of Mr. Kayatin’s achievements while employed at Duke Power are as follows: designing the first nuclear structure without having the foundation supported on bedrock, and being part of team to implement the use of PASCE (Plant Applications & Systems from Combustion Engineering) software, which is a software package developed for the sole purpose of generating 3-D models for nuclear power sites to be used for a variety analysis and design models of nuclear power stations. Mr. Kayatin moved to Lima in December 1988 to accept the position as Assistant Sanitary Engineer. Mr. Kayatin continues to reside in Lima with his wife Kathy.
Mr. Kayatin is a member of the Knights of Columbus Local 2661, Rotary Club of Lima, National, Ohio and Lima Societies of Professional Engineers, American Society of Civil Engineers, County Sanitary Engineers of Ohio, of which he served as President in 1994. Mr. Kayatin had served on the board of Senior Citizens in Lima while design and construction of its new facilities were being completed. Mr. Kayatin had coached junior high and high school football for nine years at Lima Central Catholic High School. Mr. Kayatin is a member of the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church.
